Trauma-Sensitive Yoga
A book review of Eva Weinmann's „When Your Body Remembers“ – and why trauma concerns us all.
Book Review
Understanding trauma is becoming ever more important – not only in therapy, but also on the yoga mat. Eva Weinmann's book „When Your Body Remembers“ brings the subject out of shame and makes it possible to talk about. That is exactly what moved me.
Theory That Holds
Weinmann explains clearly how differently trauma shows itself – as shock trauma, developmental trauma or transgenerational trauma – and what it does to the nervous system. This knowledge helps us understand our own reactions not as weakness, but as a meaningful protective response of the body.
Practice That Invites
The beautiful thing: it does not stop at theory. The book offers concrete, mindful exercises for yoga teachers as well as for practitioners – and QR codes lead to free practice videos. This makes trauma-sensitive work tangible: no pressure to perform, no overstepping, but a gentle returning into one's own body.
Why It Matters to Me
In my classes the principle is: you don't have to do anything that doesn't feel right. This book strengthens my resolve to create spaces in which safety comes first. A clear recommendation – for teachers and for everyone who wishes to meet themselves with more compassion. (Knaur)
